- Introduction:
-
- Most of the telephones thesedays use Tone Dial Keying to dial a number.
- This means that the telephone will send some special tones to the exchange
- of the telephone corporation.
- The method they use is called Tone Dial Keying (TDK) and the tones are send
- using a Dual Tone Multi Frequency code (DTMF-code).
- We will not bore you how this works but it's actually very simple. All you
- need is two independent tone generators to make a DTMF-code.
- We all know that the Atari ST has 3 independent voices housed in the good
- old PSG of Yamaha. The PSG chip in nowadays a little bit old fashioned but
- it can produce DTMF quite good. However it is not capable to produce Sine
- Wave shapes but our experiments with Square Wave shapes worked just as well.
- Now that you know all this you can imagine what our program was build for.
-
- TDK Dialer can dial your favourite numbers using a normal phone.
- It can store 8 presets so you don't have to worry about memorizing a number.
- It works on your good old ST, so no DMA or DSP Hardware is needed.
- And last but not least it's..... P O S T C A R D W A R E so it will
- not cost you anything, exept for a stamp and a card. But if you want to
- send us some money feel free !!
-
- So where is the freaking manual you may no ask.
- To say you the truth there isn't any, this program is so simple to use
- if your having problems with it you may consider to buy another computer.
-
- All you have to do is place your phone's mike against the speaker of
- your monitor. You should turn down the volume a little bit because of
- the distortion. Please experiment with it, this program has been tested
- and used for two months and it works perfectly. If you have any comments
- please write us or, when you can connect to ABC mail, send us some mail.

- Modes for TDK DIALER 2.0 (TTP-version):
-
- The TTP version is capable of dialing with more options.
-
- Usage : dial phone-number [ mode ]
- phone-number == number or string to dial
- mode == 0 : Normal (default)
- mode == 1 : Hexadecimal
- mode == 2 : USA Translation
- mode == 3 : USA ASCII
- mode == 4 : USA Extended ASCII
- mode == 5 : Netherlands ASCII
- For demonstration enter: dial demo
-
- mode 0 is used to dial a number in the good old fashioned way
- mode 1 is used to translate the hexadecimal input to a normal number
- mode 2 is used to memorize numbers using the US keyboard layout
- mode 3 is used to transmit ASCII text to a DTMF receiver (this works great)
- mode 4 is the same as mode 3 but now all 127 ascii codes can be used
- mode 5 is the same as mode 3 but now the Dutch Format is used
-
- We can understand that while reading this you don't know what to do with
- the program anymore. The answer is simple enter: dial demo from your
- command line to see it yourself.
- This program is the only one we know that offers such a variety of
- TDK-protocols. Mode 3, 4 and 5 are REAL protocols, we did not invent
- them ourself but we 'only' programmed it in 'C'.
-
- PS.
- These options will be included in the future GEM-application (ACC/APP),
- but now only mode 0 is used by this version. When you send a postcard
- we can supply you the version if you like.
-
- To find us send ABC Mail to
